Wydad raises a banner for Ceuta and Melilla, Morocco does not give up

Wydad Athletic Club supporters displayed a banner at Mohamed V Stadium this weekend that read: “For Ceuta and Melilla, Morocco does not surrender, nor its people”, while the match against Widad Temara ended with an away victory 1‑3.

Football support for the migration crisis

The migration crisis affecting the Spanish autonomous city of Ceuta since the end of July remains fully current in both Spain and Morocco.

In the Spanish league several teams have taken the field wearing shirts supporting the Ceuta community, generating controversy when Mbappé, Vinicius and Konaté concealed part of the message “We are all caballas”.

In the Moroccan league itself, Wydad Athletic Club fans from Casablanca reiterated solidarity by displaying the same slogan in Spanish.

The match against Widad Temara ended with an away victory 1‑3 for the visiting side.

Less than a month ago, Maghreb Fez supporters displayed another banner with the message “Ceuta and Melilla: two cities, one homeland: Morocco”.

This gesture also sought to politically claim the situation of the Spanish cities.

In the Netherlands there has been discussion about Xavi and his ‘oranje’ national team, according to Imma Mentruit.

Vozinha, also quoted by Imma Mentruit, said: “If I could, I would return to my former life”.

The migration situation remains a hot topic on the public agenda of both countries.

Fans on both sides continue to use football as a platform to express their stance.
