Wrexham's Phil Parkinson feels City pressure as owners scout managers

Wrexham’s poor start to the Championship has intensified scrutiny on manager Phil Parkinson, with the club’s owners reportedly weighing up new appointments, including an ex‑Leicester City boss, as the Red Dragons seek to revive their promotion ambitions after only seven points from seven games.

The Red Dragons have collected just seven points from their opening seven Championship games. Their sole victory was a 3‑0 triumph over Millwall earlier this month. A 6‑0 defeat at the London Stadium against West Ham United – with goals from Bowen, Piroe, Mavropanos, Castellanos, Kante and Solomon – marked Parkinson’s worst loss.

Owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mc… have publicly backed Parkinson for five years. With an extended three‑week international break looming, the timing could suit a managerial change. The club’s summer transfer spending, including signings such as Anthony Patterson and Callum O’Hare, signals ambition to reach the Premier League.

Potential promotion specialists

One name circulating is Scott Parker, the former Leicester City manager now out of work. Parker guided Fulham to play‑off glory in 2019‑20 and secured second‑place finishes with Bournemouth in 2021‑22 and Burnley in 2024‑25, the latter amassing 100 points and conceding only 16 goals.

Another option is Sean Dyche, whose direct style mirrors Parkinson’s and who delivered two promotions with Burnley, even reaching the Europa League after a seventh‑place finish in 2017‑18. Dyche’s experience could provide continuity should the Red Dragons opt for a familiar Championship‑proven approach.
