Worrying MRI scan leaves Man Utd’s Sesko doubtful as January targets loom

Benjamin Sesko underwent an MRI scan in London after a recurring shin problem forced him off during a Premier League match, prompting Manchester United to label his injury “worrying” and casting doubt over any January signings.

Injury history and recent absence

The 23‑year‑old Slovenia international has battled the same shin issue before, missing the final three games of last season and all of pre‑season at Old Trafford. He was also absent for United’s 1‑1 draw with Fulham at Craven Cottage, having started the 3‑2 Carabao Cup defeat to Brighton.

Manager’s update and future outlook

Manchester United boss Michael Carrick said after the Fulham game, “We’re not sure with Ben yet. He felt a bit of pain after the game against Brighton so we’re assessing him. At the moment, he definitely wasn’t ready for Fulham, so I haven’t really got any more news to give you at this point.”

Slovenian outlet Ekipa echoed the concern, noting the injury’s chronic nature and its tendency to linger from March to September, potentially extending into October, with an uncertain prognosis.

Ekipa added that such bone‑related pain can persist without a classic fracture, making recovery unpredictable and long‑term.

With Sesko’s condition unresolved, doubts remain over his availability for Slovenia and his role in United’s attacking plans.

TEAMtalk reported that Borussia Dortmund striker Serhou Guirassy is being closely monitored ahead of the January window, but United are not looking to move on from Sesko, who remains a key part of their future.
