World Cup defender Khusanov signs new deal with Manchester City
Manchester City have secured defender Abdukodir Khusanov on a new contract that runs until mid‑2031, following his full‑time displays for Uzbekistan at the WK 2026. The five‑year extension was announced today via the club’s official channels, confirming the club’s commitment to the 22‑year‑old.
City’s summer activity has been intense. Earlier this window the club extended midfielder Phil Foden’s deal to mid‑2030. It also completed the signing of Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest, adding depth to the squad.
Khusanov expressed his gratitude, saying, “I have enjoyed every minute since arriving in Manchester and I feel I am growing as a player.” He added that his new challenge is to impress Enzo Maresca and earn regular starts, thanking City fans for their support.
The defender arrived in the winter of 2025, joining Manchester City from French side RC Lens for a reported €40 million fee.
He has featured in 47 matches for The Citizens. In those appearances he scored one goal.
At the WK 2026 in the United States, Canada and Mexico, Khusanov started every game for Uzbekistan, which exited in the group stage, bringing his international tally to 30 caps.
Looking ahead, Khusanov is determined to become a regular under Maresca, aiming to contribute to City’s success as the season progresses. He said he is ready to do everything he can to make the club as successful as possible.
