Workload concerns force Adeyemi into Germany squad, Karl to second team

In the quiet of the DFB headquarters on Monday, Jürgen Klopp finalised a last‑minute alteration to his inaugural Germany squad, swapping Bayern Munich youngster Lennart Karl for Barcelona winger Karim Adeyemi. The decision, aimed at managing player workloads, reshaped the senior and second‑team line‑ups ahead of the Nations League double‑header.

Workload management cited

The German Football Association (DFB) confirmed on Monday that the swap was made for reasons of workload management. Klopp’s original senior list had included Karl, but the change moves him to the second‑team squad.

Adeyemi therefore joins the senior group for the upcoming Nations League fixtures against the Netherlands and Greece. The Barcelona winger could feature in the away match in Amsterdam on Thursday. Germany will then host Greece in Augsburg on Sunday.

Karl shifts to second squad

The 18‑year‑old Karl, who missed the World Cup through injury, will instead join Germany’s second squad for fixtures against Serbia and Greece. Germany face Serbia at the Allianz Arena on October 1 before travelling to Thessaloniki to meet Greece on October 4. This gives Karl a home appearance at the stadium of his Bundesliga club, Bayern Munich.

Both players remain involved at international level despite the reshuffle. The adjustment highlights Klopp’s focus on balancing player fatigue with competitive demands in the Nations League campaign.
