Wolfsburg's summer target stalls as Anderlecht defender suffers surgery
Un Anderlechtois, right‑back Killian Sardella, saw his potential summer transfer to VfL Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga collapse after a quadriceps tear required surgery, leaving the deal in doubt as the injury occurred during pre‑season preparation. The operation will keep him off the pitch for an extended period, forcing both clubs to reassess the move.
VfL Wolfsburg had already presented an especially attractive salary proposal to recruit Sardella for the upcoming Bundesliga season, and negotiations were well advanced when the injury occurred.
RSC Anderlecht attempted to renegotiate Sardella's contract but judged his financial demands excessive; the 24‑year‑old remains tied to the club until June 2028, leaving the Mauves to decide between a better‑terms extension or accepting a summer transfer.
The quadriceps rupture happened during a pre‑season training session, required surgical intervention and will keep him away from the field for an indefinite period.
Transfer expert Sacha Tavolieri said the injury has "considerably cooled" Wolfsburg's interest, although it does not entirely rule out the move.
Pour Sardella, the timing is particularly unlucky as he hoped to embrace a new challenge with Wolfsburg. He has logged 178 matches for RSC Anderlecht, scoring once and providing eleven assists; Transfermarkt values him at €2.5 million, but the injury makes any summer valuation difficult and the club will miss him for several weeks.
