Wolfsburg’s shift on Amoura: from exit target to renewed hope as coach Strobl reconsiders his future in the Bundesliga this summer

In the training ground of VfL Wolfsburg, 26‑year‑old Algerian international Mohamed Amoura, once told to seek a new club, now finds himself back in the coach’s good books, yet his long‑term future at the German side remains uncertain as the summer transfer window unfolds.

The Il Alg striker Mohamed Amoura was clearly pushed towards a departure at the start of the market. He was invited to find a new club because he did not feature in the plans of Tobias Strobl, the club’s head coach.

His absence from the squad that faced VSG Altglienicke was not linked to any disciplinary issue. The club confirmed that the omission was purely a selection decision.

Coach Strobl’s renewed confidence

Amoura attended training on Thursday and was then benched on Friday, leaving his status in limbo. When asked about his future, Tobias Strobl described it as “open” and praised the forward’s effort, saying: “He has done everything to come back quickly onto the pitch. He is enthusiastic about this novelty, integrates well and possesses qualities that can be useful to us.”

Having been suspended twice last season, Amoura appears to be benefiting from a fresh start. Strobl said he will no longer dwell on past incidents and will judge the player’s behaviour and performances over the coming weeks.

Unclear future amid market speculation

Wolfsburg must decide whether to retain its most decisive player of the past two seasons, who recorded 35 decisive actions in the Bundesliga, or to use his value to strengthen its negotiating position. The market remains open, and a departure is still possible.

It also remains to be seen if Amoura wishes to continue his adventure with Wolfsburg and play a season in the Bundesliga 2, or if he will entertain more ambitious offers from elsewhere.
