Wolfsburg’s last key player set to depart as Roma deal nears

VfL Wolfsburg’s Leitwolf Koulierakis-Abgang nears Abschluss as the Greek defender prepares to join AS Roma. The 22‑year‑old interior defender is set for a medical on Saturday and will sign a contract running to 2031, ending weeks of speculation.

Es galt als ausgeschlossen, dass Konstantinos Koulierakis mit dem VfL Wolfsburg in die zweite Liga geht, but the Wölfe have now found an Abnehmer for the Innenverteidiger.

According to Sky, the Giallorossi have reached an Übereinkunft with VfL Wolfsburg that includes a fixed Ablöse of 17 Millionen Euro plus possible Boni. The deal is described as a Wechsel that will see the Grieche move to AS Rom.

Der Verein aus Niedersachsen is not exactly cash‑poor, yet the Summe from this transfer will be gratefully received after the club’s costly Einkäufe this summer. As a Zweitligist, Wolfsburg must plug the financial hole left by the loss of most TV‑Geld following its Bundesliga relegation.

Koulierakis has already agreed to the move, and after passing the mandatory medical on Saturday he will ink a new deal until 2031. The transfer follows the sales of Patrick Wimmer to Hoffenheim and Lovro Majer to AEK Athen, which already brought the club a substantial Millionen‑Einnahme.

The defender arrived from PAOK Saloniki in the summer of 2024 for roughly 11.5 Millionen Euro. He quickly became a Stammspieler and attracted interest from Juventus, Benfica, Hull City and Coventry City, confirming his status as a hot Verkaufskandidat.

The BSC has already added eight newcomers – Fabian Reese (from Hertha BSC), Muhammed Damar (TSG Hoffenheim), Fraser Hornby (Darmstadt 98), Hauke Wahl (FC St. Pauli), Robert Glatzel (Hamburger SV), Timon Wellenreuther (Feyenoord), Alessio Besio (SC Freiburg II) and Elvis Rexhbecaj (FC Augsburg) – for a total outlay of around 22 Millionen Euro.
