Winter move looms for Martin Terrier as French clubs watch

Martin Terrier remains at Bayer Leverkusen despite a summer that promised a return to Ligue 1, yet his bleak start to the season has already reignited winter‑transfer speculation. The 29‑year‑old French striker has featured for just 75 minutes in two Bundesliga outings, prompting clubs such as Stade Rennais, Olympique de Marseille, Olympique Lyonnais and Lille OSC to re‑enter the conversation.

Stalled start at Bayer Leverkusen

Terrier stayed on a contract that runs until 2029 after several French sides showed interest last summer. Instead of a fresh start, he endured an eleven‑day summer injury lay‑off and has struggled to break into the squad. His league debut came on 12 September against Augsburg, where he played only 14 minutes, followed four days later by a 61‑minute cameo in the Europa League against Celje.

Since that brief spell, his involvement has dwindled to the point of non‑existence; he remained an unused substitute against Leipzig and has not featured again. The limited game time starkly contrasts with his earlier Ligue 1 successes and the expectations that accompanied his €8 million valuation on Transfermarkt.

French clubs rekindle interest

In Germany, the prospect of a January departure is now taken seriously. Tristan Bernert of Fussball Transfers expressed surprise at Terrier’s continued stay, noting, “Why he didn’t leave this summer… I expected him to go. There were articles in Germany saying he was about to move to France, but it didn’t happen.” He added, “In my view, he will certainly leave next summer, perhaps even this winter.”

Back in France, Stade Rennais knows his qualities well, while Olympique Lyonnais monitors his progress and Lille OSC has already signalled interest. Olympique de Marseille’s name also surfaced during the last transfer window, keeping the striker on multiple clubs’ radars.

Potential winter transfer confirmed

The winter Mercato therefore appears set to become a focal point, with Terrier likely to be one of the marquee names to watch. Should a move materialise in January 2027, it would mark a reversal of the summer’s failed negotiations and offer the striker a chance to revive his career in Ligue 1.

For now, the situation remains fluid, but all signs point to a decisive winter window that could finally see Martin Terrier depart Bayer Leverkusen and return to French football.
