William and George watch Villa fall at Camp Nou

On 3 November 2026, Prince William, 44, and his son Prince George settled into the directors' box at Barcelona’s newly‑renovated Camp Nou, eyes fixed on Aston Villa’s Champions League clash against the Catalan giants. The atmosphere crackled as the royal pair prepared to witness their beloved side’s European night.
William has been a Villa supporter since his Eton days, when he deliberately avoided the Premier League powerhouses favoured by his schoolmates.
Villa’s recent surge under manager Unai Emery has granted the Prince fresh chances to travel with the team across Europe.
The Camp Nou, which recently underwent a £1.25 billion refurbishment, hosted the match that saw Barcelona take the lead in the seventh minute through Lamine Yamal’s opportunistic finish after a defensive lapse.
Barcelona later posted a message on X, welcoming His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales and His Royal Highness Prince George to the Spotify Camp Nou for a special evening of Champions League football featuring Aston Villa.
The previous week William flew to Istanbul, where Villa thumped Turkish giants Fenerbahçe, extending their flawless start to two wins in the Champions League group stage.
That Istanbul trip also recalled Villa’s journey to the Europa League final at Besiktas Stadium the season before.
William’s European outings have previously taken him to Paris and, of course, to Villa Park for home fixtures.
In a 2015 BBC interview, William explained his attraction to the Midlands club, citing a desire for a mid‑table team that offers emotional roller‑coaster moments rather than perennial dominance.
He recalled attending the 2000 FA Cup tie between Bolton and Aston Villa, noting the club’s rich history despite the eventual loss to Chelsea in that final.
William summed up his bond with Villa fans, describing the camaraderie, the red beanie he wore and the connection he felt on match days.
