Willem II set to join forces with Chido Obi on loan

Manchester United forward Chido Obi is set to join Eredivisie club Willem II on a season‑long loan, moving to the Netherlands to gain regular first‑team minutes and senior experience. The transfer can be finalised after the English deadline because the Dutch window remains open.

The move was confirmed by veteran transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano on Wednesday, when he posted on X: ‘Chido Obi from Manchester United to Willem II, here we go! Deal done for the striker to join Dutch side on season‑long loan.’ Romano’s tweet also noted that United have authorised the medical on the same day.

Loan terms and conditions

The agreement runs until the end of the season and contains no option to purchase. Willem II will receive the Danish forward on a full‑season loan, with United retaining his registration. The clubs have agreed that the player will undergo a medical examination before finalising the move.

Obi’s United pedigree

Obi arrived at Manchester United’s academy from Arsenal less than a year before making his senior debut. The Danish youth international impressed in the under‑21 side and earned a first‑team appearance within twelve months of his arrival, signalling the club’s belief in his potential.

Aiming for first‑team impact

The loan is designed to give the 19‑year‑old regular first‑team minutes in the Eredivisie, a league known for developing young talent. Obi has said he will be desperate to catch the eye in the Netherlands, hoping to return to Old Trafford and stake a claim for a place in Michael Carrick’s first‑team plans.

Because the English transfer window closed on Thursday, the deal could only be completed after that deadline. The Dutch transfer window remains open, allowing Willem II to register Obi for the remainder of the campaign. This timing ensures the striker can feature for the club immediately once the paperwork is processed.
