Willem II eye Calvin Twigt as they gear up for Eredivisie

Midfielder Calvin Twigt, 23, is reportedly still in talks about a permanent move to Willem II after spending last season on loan at the Tilburg club, and the newly promoted side are keen to have him for their Eredivisie campaign.

Last season the 23‑year‑old midfielder of the Go Ahead Eagles spent the campaign on loan at Willem II in Tilburg. The loan spell gave him regular minutes in the Dutch second tier.

Willem II secured promotion to the Eredivisie and now want Twigt to join them permanently. The club sees him as a key addition for their top‑flight campaign.

“What I have heard is that something is still going on. It is with my agent. I know Willem II really want me, that is all,” Twigt told the Stentor. He added that discussions with Go Ahead Eagles remain private.

Twigt said he enjoyed a “very nice half‑year” at Willem II, playing in every position and gaining confidence. He stressed that regular playing time is essential for his development.

He also said a longer stay at Go Ahead would not be a disaster, noting he is not unhappy there and feels loved. Experiencing promotion to the Eredivisie together, he said, would make the situation even better.

Go Ahead trainer Joseph Oosting said he would rather keep Twigt at the club. “I think he is a good player and I am glad he can get minutes again,” he said.

Oosting added, “He has stamina and a certain nastiness in his play. I have always liked him, and while I find him very interesting, the final decision rests with the player.”
