Why Juventus' plans stall as Aston Villa chase Suzuki

Why Juventus are scrambling for a new goalkeeper is clear: Emiliano Martinez suffered a finger injury in the warm‑up to the UEFA Europa League Final and the problem lingered through the World Cup with Argentina, leaving the club unsure of his availability and prompting a search for a replacement.

Villa intensify Suzuki chase

Aston Villa are intensifying talks for Parma goalkeeper Zion Suzuki. The English club went back in with an offer that mirrors the terms Parma had already accepted, signalling a serious intent to secure the Japanese international.

The entire situation turned on its head when Paris Saint‑Germain were about to exchange documents with Parma for Suzuki at €30m plus €5m add‑ons. French reports suggest his agents demanded up to an extra €5m in commission, which infuriated the Champions League holders, and they walked away.

Immediately after PSG walked away, Aston Villa offered similar terms to the ones Parma had accepted. In theory, that move would free Martinez for Juventus, creating a direct link between the two deals.

Juventus weigh options

Multiple sources warn Juventus are by no means sure Martinez will be their first target now, with other goalkeepers on the table. Tottenham Hotspur’s Guglielmo Vicario, Fenerbahçe’s Ederson and Benfica’s Ukraine international Anatoliy Trubin are being considered, and Parma’s €10m asking price for Suzuki adds another hurdle.

Martinez’s finger injury, sustained in the Europa League Final warm‑up, continued to affect him throughout the World Cup, raising doubts about his short‑term fitness for Juventus.

Juventus are keeping alternatives on ice, aware that the fee, commission demands and Martinez’s injury could stall any immediate move. The club’s next steps will hinge on whether Villa can finalise Suzuki’s transfer and whether Juventus can secure a suitable replacement in time.
