Welbeck is expected to provide a substitute option in attack, with Joao Pedro established as the starting number 9 and Welbeck positioned as a possible replacement for the Brazilian forward during the season.

In his final Brighton season he featured in 40 games, netted 14 goals and supplied two assists, helping the Seagulls finish eighth and qualify for the Conference League.
