West Ham's attacking surge propels them to Championship lead

West Ham secured their fourth league win in a row with a thumping 6‑0 victory over Wrexham at the London Stadium, returning to the top of the Sky Bet Championship and showcasing a marauding attacking display under Nuno Espirito Santo.

First‑half dominance

The Hammers should have led inside seven minutes when Taty Castellanos headed a free header from Manor Solomon’s cross from six yards, but the ball fell short. Jarrod Bowen then forced a reflex save from Anthony Patterson, his shot rattling the crossbar, and Konstantinos Mavropanos’ subsequent header drifted wide at the far post.

Second‑half onslaught

After a brief respite, Bowen struck after 28 minutes, latching onto Morato’s right‑wing cross and guiding the ball into the far corner ahead of Jacques Ekomie. Konstantinos Mavropanos headed home from Bowen’s corner to make it 3‑0, and a poor Wrexham corner saw Kyle Walker‑Peters launch a counter that ended with Castellanos slotting home.

Manor Solomon’s low effort was smothered by Patterson early in the second half, but a minute later Mohamadou Kante, introduced from the bench, finished a lovely rising finish after Solomon sent him clear. Solomon later completed the rout with a deflected shot that ricocheted off a post.

West Ham’s fourth goal arrived when Mavropanos cleared off the line after a George Dobson challenge, the closest the Welsh side came to a reply. Joel Piroe, after an earlier miss that sent the ball high into the Wrexham crowd, finally doubled the lead when Castellanos squared him the ball following a through pass.

The performance underlines how the Hammers are finding their feet in the second tier after failing to win any of their first three games following Premier League relegation. Six different scorers highlighted the breadth of Nuno Espirito Santo’s attacking options.

With the win, West Ham have reclaimed the Championship lead and momentum builds as they look to consolidate their position ahead of the next round of fixtures.
