West Ham clears a striker slot for Joël Piroe as Niclas Füllkrug exits
West Ham United have created a striker vacancy by sending Niclas Füllkrug out on a temporary deal, paving the way for Joël Piroe, who is on the brink of signing for the English club after completing his medical this season.
Loan moves free up a striker slot
German striker Niclas Füllkrug has left West Ham United on a temporary basis, joining Werder Bremen on loan. The move returns him to the club where he first broke into professional football.
Füllkrug also spent the second half of the previous season on loan at AC Milan, adding Serie A experience to his résumé.
Joël Piroe has completed his medical at the Engelse club and awaits only a signature to become a West Ham United forward. The Dutch striker arrives from Leeds United, a side that finished eighteenth in the Premier League last season.
VI reported earlier this week that Piroe was close to completing a transfer to West Ham, confirming the club’s intent to reinforce its attack.
Within the squad, Taty Castellanos and Pablo remain the only other forwards competing with Piroe, as West Ham drew 0-0 with Burnley in their Championship return.
In the first round of the League Cup, West Ham secured a 3-1 victory over Portsmouth, adding a cup win to their recent league performances.
