West Brom eye £8m Archer move as Southampton's future clouds
West Brom have reportedly approached Southampton forward Cameron Archer, but the Saints have not yet received a formal offer, leaving the 25‑year‑old’s future at St. Mary’s uncertain as his contract runs until June 2028.

Southampton stint and contract
Archer joined Southampton in 2024 from Aston Villa and has been a regular presence over the past two seasons. He made 30 Championship appearances last season, starting only 11, and recorded four goals and three assists as the Saints reached the play‑offs under Tonda Eckert.
West Brom approach and market clock
According to journalist Ben Jacobs, West Brom made an approach on 13 August, yet Southampton have yet to receive any formal contact from their Championship rivals. The Baggies must complete any deal before the 1 September deadline, and they face competition from clubs such as Wrexham.
The arrival of Divin Mubama at Southampton could further limit Archer’s game time, while West Brom, under James Morrison, look to reinforce their forward line after the departures of Daryl Dike and Josh Maja.
Fee expectations and club opinions
West Brom fan pundit Callum Burgess believes a fee above £8 million would be difficult to meet, but anything below that would represent good value for Morrison’s side. “Archer showed during his spells at Preston and Middlesbrough that when he’s the focal point of the team, he can be a strong source of goals,” Burgess told Football League World.
Southampton fan Louis Harris warned that the club may only recoup half of the roughly £15 million paid for Archer two years ago. “If you asked me before the news of Ross Stewart leaving I would’ve welcomed the idea of Archer moving away, but as it stands we are very light in the striker department,” Harris said.
