Way for Koundé: Bayern plans a defensive change in winter
In the shadow of the Allianz Arena, officials are discussing a possible winter change in the defence. According to the Spanish sports newspaper SPORT, a path could be paved for Barça star Jules Koundé if the record champions FC Bayern Munich first generate revenue.
Financial guidelines for the Koundé deal
The report emphasizes that Bayern must first secure a transfer fee of around 40 million euros for Min‑jae Kim in order to obtain the necessary transfer funds. Additionally, a yearly salary of about eight million euros would be saved if Kim leaves the club.
Kim sale and potential suitors
The 29‑year‑old South Korean has already received the green light for a club move, but a concrete offer has not yet materialised. Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa and AC Milan are said to have already held talks, with the Munich side rating the player's departure as quite likely.
In the event of a Kim sale, Bayern plan to fill the gap with Tomas Araujo from Benfica Lisbon. The Portuguese centre‑back is mentioned as a realistic option with a transfer fee of around 35 million euros.
Kane’s stay at Bayern forces Barcelona to chase Haaland
However, Jules Koundé is considered a far more prominent target. The French national player is under contract with FC Barcelona until 2030, but this season has barely secured a regular spot on the right side of defence and usually ranks behind Eric Garcia.
According to SPORT, Koundé has lost confidence under Hansi Flick and already lost importance in the previous season. The 27‑year‑old defender deliberately chose to stay at Barcelona over the summer, hoping to regain his regular place.
If he does not achieve this by January, the situation could change. The report points out that so far there has been no direct contact between Bayern and Koundé, but the Munich side is aware of the situation and could become active if interested.
Several Premier League clubs are closely monitoring Koundé's development, which further increases the player's attractiveness to Bayern.
