Watzke hopes Infantino will himself recognise the resignation

Last week, Hans‑Joachim Watzke, president of the Bundesliga and vice‑president of the German Football Association (DFB), told Deutschlandfunk that he hopes FIFA president Gianni Infantino will realize himself that a resignation would do football good. He emphasized that the current situation is putting the sport to a stress test.

Watzke said: “I hope that he realizes this himself.” With this he refers to the statement: “In fact, football would be greatly served if Gianni Infantino steps down, so as not to expose football to such a stress test.”

The man, who is considered by many to be the most powerful figure in German football, has expressed a hope. As president of the Bundesliga and vice‑president of the German Football Association (DFB) he speaks with particular authority.

Skepticism towards DFB influence

Anyone who believes that will also be told that the DFB cannot change anything. This viewpoint calls into question the effectiveness of Watzke's demand.

The image description points out that the statement is also audible. In the segment the word “Listen” is given as an indication of the possibility to hear the speech.

The report can be bookmarked, shared, gifted, printed or added to the app. This way readers can spread the message widely.

If the DFB were to realize that, as the largest national sports federation in the world, it has the power to change something in the power structures of international football, it could set new impulses.
