Watford secures Senegalese reinforcement for free: Krépin Diatta signs
Senegalese winger Krépin Diatta signed a one‑year contract with an option for an additional year with Watford, joining the English club on a free transfer after ending his spell at Monaco, where he played 114 games and scored six goals.
One‑year contract with an option
The deal provides for one season, with the club having the right to extend it for another year, without a transfer fee. The move to Watford was made on a free transfer, reinforcing the strategy of signings without purchase costs.
“I’m very happy to join the team. After talking with the people here, the project became very clear in my mind,” Diatta said. He added that Watford is a great club that was recently in the Premier League.
Diatta spent the last five and a half seasons at Monaco, where he accumulated 114 games and scored six goals. His contract with the French club ended, allowing him to become a free agent.
He began his career as a winger and attacking midfielder, but in recent years he has taken on roles as a full‑back. He has experience both in attack and in defence.
For the Senegal national team, Diatta has earned 65 caps and took part in the 2026 World Cup. His presence at the World Cup demonstrates the Senegalese coach’s confidence.
The player was omitted from the squad for the opening matches of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, when he was still without a club. The exclusion occurred before his signing with Watford.
Watford Football Club posted a tweet on 1 October 2026 welcoming Diatta. The news was initially reported in the Bola na Rede column.
