Watch out Frankfurt: Europe’s elite eye Eintracht jewel Niko Ilicevic
On the training ground of Eintracht Frankfurt, a 15‑year‑old player is in the spotlight, while the media are already talking about “Caution Frankfurt Europe’s Elite”. The young attacking midfielder Niko Ilicevic has caused a stir in the youth teams and is already allowed to train with the professionals.
Successful Business, Now Chaotic Transfer Period
Christof Koepsel/GettyImages showed that Eintracht Frankfurt has landed almost exclusively hits on the transfer market in recent years. Sporting director Markus Krösche, with clever business, generated huge transfer profits year after year. But in the summer the lucky charm left Eintracht, and the club experienced a chaotic transfer period in which many key players were forced to leave to generate revenue.
Young Talents Come Into Focus
With the departure of the veterans, younger players move to the forefront, foremost Niko Ilicevic, who is considered the club’s biggest talent. The 15‑year‑old U‑17 international is set to receive a professional contract on 31 October, his 16th birthday, to give him a clear development plan and bind him long‑term.
Eintracht Frankfurt is confident that, despite the competition, the club will succeed in keeping Ilicevic. The aim is to provide the young player with further professional experience as quickly as possible, so that coach Adi Hütter could call on him during the season.
If Ilicevic actually made it into a Bundesliga match, he would become one of the youngest debutants of all time. The current record is held by Youssoufa Moukoko, who debuted at the age of 16 years and one day.
According to the pay‑TV channel Sky, several top clubs have already shown interest: Manchester City, FC Barcelona, Real Madrid, AC Milan and Inter Milan. Despite this strong competition, Eintracht Frankfurt sees itself well positioned to court the young attacking player.
The club hopes that, with the early professional contract and targeted playing time, it will be one step ahead of the European elite clubs while also securing the sporting future of the team.
