Wanhopig Liverpool turn to Ismaïla Sarr after Minteh deal collapses

Wanhopig Liverpool turn to Ismaïla Sarr after Minteh deal collapses

Desperate Liverpool have abandoned talks with Brighton & Hove Albion for Yankuba Minteh, a development confirmed by Fabrizio Romano, and have already turned their attention to a far pricier option – Crystal Palace’s Senegalese winger Ismaïla Sarr, for whom a €58 million bid has been tabled.

Minteh talks collapse

Liverpool’s pursuit of Yankuba Minteh collapsed after the club walked away from negotiations with Brighton & Hove Albion. Brighton’s financial demands were described as excessive, prompting the Reds to scrap the deal. The withdrawal was reported by transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano.

Andoni Iraola’s side has been hunting for a new forward for an extended period. Parallel discussions with Paris Saint-Germain over Bradley Barcola have stalled, with the two clubs remaining far apart on valuation. The stalled Barcola talks pushed Liverpool to consider options on the flanks, bringing Minteh into focus.

With the Brighton offer off the table, Minteh is no longer in Liverpool’s immediate plans. The club’s attention has now shifted elsewhere.

Sarr emerges as costly alternative

Liverpool have opened negotiations for Ismaïla Sarr, the 87‑cap Senegal international who has long impressed at Crystal Palace. Sarr’s performances at the recent World Cup further raised his profile. The player is described as ‘peperdure’, indicating a very high price tag.

Earlier this transfer window, Sarr was linked with a move to Manchester United and also to the top club of Turkey’s Süper Lig. Both potential moves failed to materialise. Liverpool hope to finalise a forward signing in the final week of the transfer window.

The Reds are in direct contact with Crystal Palace and have already submitted a €58 million offer. Sarr has expressed a desire to join Liverpool, suggesting a personal agreement will not be an obstacle. The €58 million bid arrives as Liverpool target a forward before the window closes.

The stark contrast between the abandoned Minteh deal and the expensive Sarr pursuit underscores Liverpool’s Wanhopig approach as the transfer window draws to a close. The original report even contains the words Lig, Het and Saint, highlighting the fragmented nature of the negotiations. Now the club awaits a response from Crystal Palace to see if the deal can be completed.
