Wales pulls back on Infantino’s re‑election after investor fiasco
Bericht Wales: the Football Association of Wales (FAW) has formally withdrawn its Unterstützung for Infantinos Wiederwahl as FIFA‑Boss. The decision follows the recent Investoren‑Fiasko that has shaken confidence in Gianni Infantino’s leadership.
In a written notice the Verband confirmed the Entzug seiner Unterstützung for the Kandidatur of Gianni Infantino for the FIFA‑Bosses term 2027 – 2031. The FAW, co‑host of the EM next year in the United Kingdom and Ireland, stressed that “Das Wohl des Fußballs nicht an erste Stelle zu setzen, ist ein Versagen, das wir nicht akzeptieren können.”

Infantino, who has been FIFA‑Boss since 2016, withdrew plans to sell part of FIFA’s commercial rights after massive resistance. The UEFA, of which Wales is a member, had sharply attacked the Swiss president.
Elections are scheduled for 18 March 2027. If all proceeds orderly, Infantino aims to stand one final time at the 77th FIFA Congress in Rabat, Morocco, for a four‑year term.
Der FAW’s move adds a new dimension to the ongoing debate about the future of the world governing body, with Die Stimmen of several associations now openly questioning the incumbent’s continued leadership.
