WAC in shock after loss to Altach

In Altach's stadium, where the eighth round of the Admiral Bundesliga was played on Sunday, Ousmane Diawara gave the hosts a 1-0 lead in the sixth minute, before Benjamin Böckle raised the score to 2-0 just seven minutes later – a quick lead that eventually punished Wolfsberger AC with a 0-3 defeat.

Quick lead for Altach

It took less than a quarter of an hour for Altach to lead 2-0 thanks to goals from Ousmane Diawara (6') and Benjamin Böckle (13'). In the 49th minute Diawara scored again, setting the final result at 3-0. Altach‑Trainer Ognjen Zaric then praised his team's clear response after the long international break.

Reactions in the WAC camp

The conceding goals for Wolfsberger came in a manner that left coach Thomas Silberberger puzzled after the final whistle. “I now have seven hours to analyse the whole thing. But I don’t know how to approach it,” said Silberberger.

Dominik Fitz criticised the defence: “We defend as a team catastrophically. That is currently not Bundesliga‑standard.” He urged the team to be fully present from the first minute. “Maybe give someone a ‘Bock’ hit, so we show that we are there,” he added.

Captain Simon Piesinger was punished with a red card shortly before the break – his third direct dismissal in five rounds. After the bitter defeat, there is disbelief in the WAC camp. Next Sunday, Wolfsberger AC will face WSG Tirol, where a turning point is expected.

Silberberger hoped for improvement: “Time will tell whether we are competitive on Sunday.” Altach‑Trainer Ognjen Zaric said he was satisfied: “It is easy now when you have won 3-0… But many things worked today.”

WAC has slipped to the bottom of the table after the fourth consecutive defeat, while Austria sits in tenth place after the first quarter of the season. Both clubs are looking for ways out of the sporting crisis.
