Volendam eyes Jurjus as Van Oevelen successor amid transfer buzz

Volendam is weighing Hidde Jurjus as the replacement for Kayne van Oevelen, who is on the brink of a €4 million move to Ipswich Town, while the 32‑year‑old goalkeeper searches for a new club after leaving FC Groningen on a free transfer.

Since mid‑2023 Jurjus has been on the books of FC Groningen, where he served mainly as the backup for Etienne Vaessen. Over the past two seasons he was the stand‑in keeper while Vaessen held the starting role.

At the conclusion of the last season the club and Jurjus mutually terminated their agreement. Both parties walked away after the two‑year stint.

Jurjus kept his fitness levels high while training with NEC, allowing him to arrive at a prospective employer in top condition. This readiness could enable an immediate start should a contract be secured.

FC Volendam has now opened a line of communication with Jurjus, signalling interest in him as the successor to Kayne van Oevelen. The Dutch side sees the 32‑year‑old as a direct replacement in goal.
