Vinicius apologises for Saliba's red card, doubts his form in Clasico

Vinicius Jr. received a direct red card for pulling Saliba's hair during the match between Real Madrid and Villarreal, an action in which he also scored a goal that was disallowed. The Brazilian, who had laughed with Dumfries on the bench, was the protagonist of the Madrid side's victory. After the match, he posted a message on his social media apologizing to the team and the fans.

Possible sanction and absence in the Clasico

The referee deemed the foul as aggression, so the regulations provide for a two‑match suspension. Therefore, everything points to Vinicius possibly being absent in the upcoming Clasico against Barça, and even in the next match against Sevilla. The final decision will depend on the report issued by the disciplinary committee.

Chema Moya of EFE described the situation as “Vinicius seems to chase trouble or trouble chases him”. Pablo Planas, Vinicius Jr.’s manager, added that the player is already used to reacting to his problems.

In his post, the Brazilian wrote: “The joy continues… Sorry to my team and the fans”. Despite the apology, he did not show remorse for the gesture against Saliba.

Real Madrid remains on edge while awaiting the case’s resolution, as Vinicius’s absence could affect its strategy both against Barça and against Sevilla.
