Vincent Kompany ignores BVB after Bayern draw in Augsburg

After the disappointing 2-2 draw of FC Bayern Munich in Augsburg, coach Vincent Kompany said on the Sky microphone that he didn’t care at all about the result of the top scorer in Friday’s match against SV Werder Bremen and that he didn’t even know how Borussia Dortmund had played.

“I have to be honest, I don’t even know how Dortmund played,” said the Belgian. With this he emphasized his complete indifference towards BVB’s performances, even though both teams are only two points apart after five match days. The quote came immediately after the 2-2 draw against SV Werder Bremen, which was played on Friday in Augsburg.

Kompany admits indifference towards BVB

Kompany said on the Sky microphone that he didn’t care at all about the result of the top scorer in Friday’s match against SV Werder Bremen. He emphasized that he had come to this stadium today without knowing how Dortmund had played. For him, the rivals’ result would only become relevant later in the season.

Bayern and BVB remain narrowly separated

After the draw, both BVB and Bayern were still only two points apart after five match days. Borussia Dortmund had previously won four games in a row, while the German record champion had already recorded a 0-0 against FC Schalke 04. Thus, both teams have not yet been able to secure a win over each other.

Kompany emphasizes self‑focus despite rivals

The 40‑year‑old coach explained his mindset by referring to his time as a centre‑back at Manchester City, where he recalled an “incredible battle” with FC Liverpool. “At some point it was about 100, 98 or 99 points. At some point you stopped even looking at the opponent,” said Kompany. He urged his squad to win only their own games and emphasized that he was in a “total tunnel” and that nothing about the other teams interested him.

Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, who had caused the early 0-1 after just eight seconds with a hair‑raising mistake and looked unlucky with the second concession, sees no reason to panic. “We are still in it, nothing is lost. We still have two games against Dortmund and we are still relatively early in the season,” said the veteran.

Kompany made it clear that the points gap between Bayern and Dortmund will be decisive at the end of the season. Until then, he concentrates solely on his own results.
