Vincent Kompany celebrates dream night, Munich overwhelms Union Berlin
Vincent Kompany had a true dream evening right before the international break when Bayern Munich eliminated Union Berlin 7‑0. Jamal Musiala opened the scoring after eighteen minutes and Bayern were firmly at the top of the Bundesliga with ten points from four games.
Dominant victory and record goals
Bayern showed Union Berlin every corner of the pitch; Michael Olise scored a hat‑trick (73rd, 76th and 70th minute) and Harry Kane converted a penalty in the 39th minute, after which he netted his second of the evening in the 54th minute. Kane thereby reached his hundredth Bundesliga goal in just 98 matches, a new record.
Before the break Bayern pulled further ahead: Musiala had already scored, Saibari added the fifth goal after seventy minutes and the home side recorded 23 attempts, thirteen of which were on target. Union managed only three shots, two on target, and possession was clearly with Bayern at 63 %.
Reactions from Kompany, Kane and Musiala
Coach Vincent Kompany was especially pleased after the match: “We are obviously very happy with this wonderful victory. Now the fans can go to Oktoberfest. It’s a nice gift for them.” He praised the intensity: “You could see today how the boys fought for every ball. Michael, of course, scored those goals, but he has worked enormously on that type of finishing in training.”
Harry Kane confirmed the importance of the performance: “I think we have been waiting for a match like this for a while. Maybe not yet at the level of last season, but it was great to deliver such a performance right before the international break.”
Musiala also enjoyed the dominant evening: “For a win like this you have to work very hard. That’s what we showed today. We kept up a lot of energy until the final minute.” He added that he again played ninety minutes and felt “really good.”
With 635 passes and a pass accuracy of 93 %, Bayern head into the international break in excellent spirits, while Freiburg and Borussia Dortmund, with nine points, have each played one match fewer.
