Victor Anichebe leads bid to take over EFL side Bromley

Former Everton, Sunderland and West Bromwich Albion striker Victor Anichebe is reported to be spearheading a consortium that could assume full control of League One club Bromley, fresh from their promotion to the English Football League.

Bid gains momentum during international break

Alan Nixon confirmed on Sunday that Anichebe has already arranged a training camp for Bromley’s players in Cheshire, describing it as a prelude to a formal takeover offer. The move follows the club’s shock 2‑1 victory over Huddersfield Town before the break, which bolstered hopes of staying up in the third tier.

Background to the prospective owner

Anichebe runs the Lumira Group, a long‑term holding company that invests in sport, education, healthcare and infrastructure across the United Kingdom. He previously flirted with a National League takeover of Gateshead in March 2025, a deal that ultimately fell through.

Ian, born in London in 1972, provides a contrasting football‑media profile. He ran the website Twohundredpercent from 2006 until 2021 and was a senior features writer for Football365 between 2021 and 2023. Since then he has freelanced for Fotmob and When Saturday Comes, earning FSA awards for Twohundredpercent in 2012 and 2015 and nominations in 2014, 2022 and 2024. He now lives in West Sussex with his two children.

Ian’s own playing career was modest, featuring as a left‑back at a very low level until his mid‑30s when knee problems forced him to quit. He says his knees still “rattle”, though they have not worsened.

Bromley’s rise has been rapid: twenty years ago they were in the Isthmian League Premier Division, the seventh tier, and they secured promotion to the EFL at the end of the 2023‑24 season, later winning League Two in 2025‑26. Their recent form has been mixed, with an early‑season win at Barnsley followed by three straight defeats, prompting speculation that fresh investment may be required to sustain their ascent.

reported in early August that Anichebe was already influencing Bromley’s summer recruitment, suggesting a takeover could be imminent. Fans remain divided, with some praising the prospect of new ownership and others wary of change.
