Vicens urges fans to back Braga ahead of Sporting clash

In a bustling press room on Thursday, Spanish coach Carlos Vicens addressed reporters before the eighth‑round Primeira Liga meeting between Braga and Sporting. He spoke with palpable conviction, setting the tone for what he expects to be a decisive encounter.

Playing for the supporters

Vicens praised Braga’s supporters, declaring, “We play for the fans, to share joy with them. That is why sport is beautiful – sharing with those who are there for you.” He added that the crowd’s backing would be crucial for tomorrow’s game.

The manager also confirmed that striker Moïse Niakaté remains unavailable, noting, “Yesterday the last arrivals came, we trained with everyone, but Niakaté is still recovering.” He assured that the rest of the squad is fit and ready for the intense month ahead.

Preparing for Sporting’s challenge

Speaking about Sporting, Vicens admitted uncertainty over how their players arrived but praised their “hunger” and commitment. He observed that Braga’s own players have shown “much desire” and are eager to produce a great performance.

When asked whether Rodrigo Zalazar would start for Sporting, Vicens replied, “He has played in almost every game, has adapted well and is an important player for them. The feeling I get from the outside is that he is important for them.”

Looking ahead

Vicens concluded by urging the fans to join the team tomorrow, insisting that together they can deliver a “great game”. He emphasized that Braga will focus on the task at hand, aiming to secure a positive result against a motivated Sporting side.
