Vega says Yakin’s Swiss side ready to test Scotland at Hampden
Former Celtic and Switzerland centre‑half Ramon Vega praised national head coach Murat Yakin, saying he has "done a wonderful job" as the Swiss prepare to face Scotland at Hampden Park on Tuesday.
Swiss form and squad blend
Vega highlighted the 3‑0 victory in North Macedonia on Saturday, describing the venue as "not an easy place to go" and noting the quality of the opposition. He added that Switzerland enjoyed "a very good World Cup – one of their best in 70 years".
The former Grasshoppers and Basel defender also singled out Aston Villa summer signing Johan Manzambi, calling him "fantastic at the World Cup" and praising his impact in the Premier League as a number 10.
According to Vega, many doubted Manzambi’s inclusion because he was playing for Freiburg in the Bundesliga, but Aston Villa’s scouting proved decisive.
Vega warned that Scotland will be a "difficult opponent, especially at Hampden", yet he stressed that 90 percent of Switzerland’s players now ply their trade abroad, gaining experience in hostile environments across the Premier League, Bundesliga and Serie A.
He concluded that the Swiss side’s blend of experienced, quality players with emerging talent positions them well for the second‑round Nations League group games.
