Veerman rescues Dortmund with an assist, but the draw remains
Joey Veerman continued his excellent form in the home match against Werder Bremen. The midfielder started on the bench, came on after seventy minutes and immediately delivered a crucial assist, giving him a share in the eventual 2‑2 draw.
Impact of the substitution
The coach of Borussia Dortmund had to intervene after halftime and ultimately decided to bring Veerman on. Directly afterwards Daniel Svensson scored, after Fabio Silva completely missed the ball, putting Dortmund up 1‑0.
Five minutes later Veerman contributed again: he was behind the ball, reached Nico Schlotterbeck and headed it in, bringing the score to 2‑0. At that moment the victory seemed within reach.
Ludovit Reis of Werder Bremen, however, responded quickly and brought the opposition back with an equaliser. In stoppage time Niclas Füllkrug scored the equaliser from a free kick that resulted from a foul by Veerman.
The Schwarzgelben of Werder Bremen had few chances in the first half and failed to score. After the break Dortmund only got going, partly thanks to the coach's intervention.
Because of Veerman's foul Dortmund lost its unbeaten status. The match ended without a win for the German club, despite the early lead.
