Veerman calls Dortmund debut a special day despite Super Cup loss
Dutch midfielder Joey Veerman said his first appearance for Borussia Dortmund was a “very special day”, even though the team fell short in the German Super Cup against Bayern Munich on Saturday. He added that the defeat was disappointing but highlighted the excitement of playing for such a prestigious club.
Veerman told Sky Sport that Dortmund should have found the equaliser in the final minute, saying, “We had to score the equaliser in the last minute.” He believed the side missed a chance to level the score.
He recalled meeting Dortmund two years ago in the Champions League, describing that encounter as “already very special”, and noted that this debut felt even more memorable.
Looking ahead, Veerman said his goals for the season are to “play for the trophies and do well in the Champions League,” hoping to have a significant role in achieving those aims.
Coach Niko Kovac praised Veerman and the three other new signings, stating, “I think all four of our signings have shown why they were brought in.”
Veerman was substituted after an hour for Felix Nmecha. Kovac added that both midfielders can feature together, giving the team several options in that position.
