Vasco’s fee agreement stalls as Richarlison stays at Tottenham
Richarlison’s hoped-for transfer to Vasco da Gama has collapsed, meaning the Brazilian forward will stay at Tottenham Hotspur until at least January, after being omitted from the club’s 25‑man Premier League squad last week. The move fell through after personal terms could not be agreed, despite a fee being settled between the clubs.
Tottenham confirmed on Friday that the transfer to Vasco da Gama was called off, with no fee disclosed publicly. The Brazilian was left out of Tottenham’s 25‑man Premier League squad last week, confirming his uncertain status. PA understands the clubs had agreed a fee, but personal terms could not be finalised.
Spurs had told Richarlison before the England transfer window closed that he was not part of the first‑team plans for the season. The club had already filled its six overseas loan spots, limiting options for a temporary move. Consequently, the forward was omitted from the Premier League list.
Spurs’ plan for the Brazilian
Vasco da Gama, the forward’s boyhood club, emerged as a realistic solution and agreed a fee with Tottenham on Friday. The Brazilian hoped a permanent return to Brazil would revive his career. However, Richarlison failed to reach personal terms, PA reports.
The Brazilian transfer window closes at 4.00 am BST on Saturday, meaning Richarlison is expected to remain at Tottenham for the first half of the season. He cannot feature in Premier League matches while off the squad. Reports suggest he is exploring termination of the final nine months of his contract.
Vasco’s bid and its collapse
Roberto De Zerbi, who started Richarlison in the league opener at Brentford on 22 August, said on Friday’s press conference: “I don’t know. It’s not my job. What I can say is I know very well what the club has done for Richarlison and what Richarlison has done for the club in the last month, two months. I know, the club knows, he knows, his agent knows. Everyone knows better than you.”
