Vanessa Gilles' goal keeps Bayern Munich perfect in Frauen-Bundesliga

Bayern Munich have kept their flawless start to the 2026‑27 Frauen-Bundesliga, beating Bayer Leverkusen 3‑2 on Monday to record a fourth consecutive win and stay level on points with Wolfsburg at the summit. The victory, secured through a late header from Canadian defender Vanessa Gilles, underlines Bayern’s resilience after twice falling behind.

How the comeback unfolded

After Paulina Tomasiak’s first‑half free kick deflected off the Bayern wall and into the top‑left corner, Vanessa Gilles rose to meet the ball and headed it level in the 51st minute. The Canadian’s aerial threat had already threatened early in the half, nearly scoring from a similar situation.

Tomasiak restored Bayer’s lead a minute later, but Bayern responded quickly when Edna Imade headed home the equaliser. Alara then struck the post and the rebound fell in, completing a 3‑2 turnaround and securing the full three points.

Gilles’ goal marked her third consecutive match with a strike, having headed against Mainz on matchday two and scored with her foot against Freiburg in the previous game. Her consistency adds firepower to Bayern’s defence, where she partners Jade Rose at centre‑back.

With this win Bayern have won all four of their opening fixtures, matching Wolfsburg’s perfect start after the latter beat Stuttgart 2‑0 on Sunday to sit top on goal difference. The Frauen side now sit level on points at the summit of the Frauen‑Bundesliga.

Next Saturday Bayern host fourth‑placed FC Köln before a demanding UEFA Women’s Champions League tie with Manchester City on Tuesday. The upcoming matches will test the squad’s depth as Canadian internationals Gilles and Jade Rose prepare for Canada’s friendlies in October.
