Van Oevelen’s LaLiga loan fills Valencia’s goalkeeper gap

While Valencia scramble to replace departing goalkeeper Daniil Dimitrievski, Dutch keeper Kayne van Oevelen lands in Spain, ready to fill the void and start a LaLiga loan spell with the Mestalla side after a week‑long negotiation and a smile at Manises airport, the 23‑year‑old arrives with ambitions to compete for the starting spot.

Goalkeeper vacancy solved

According to ValenciaPaula LerínCorresponsal, El Valencia ya tiene al recambio de Dimitrievski, confirming the club have secured a new goalkeeper following the departure. The club’s search intensified after Dimitrievski’s exit, prompting swift action.

Van Oevelen joins Mestalla on loan

Kayne van Oevelen touched down on Sunday at Manises airport and joined the Mestalla squad on loan from English side Ipswich Town, expressing a smile and eagerness to begin a new chapter in LaLiga. His loan agreement includes an option to extend, though details were not disclosed.

“Estoy muy feliz, finalmente se ha cerrado mi llegada. Estoy muy orgulloso y feliz de estar aquí,” he said upon arrival. He made the comments before undergoing the required medical examinations and signing the formal contract.

The 23‑year‑old Dutch goalkeeper was close to a permanent move to Valencia, but FC Volendam chose to sell him to Ipswich Town, which subsequently arranged the loan to Valencia. This sequence allowed the English side to acquire his registration before sending him on loan.

Van Oevelen aims to compete for a place in goal at Mestalla, stating he wants to improve and help the team in any way he can. He believes competition will raise his standards and benefit the squad.

“Estoy muy emocionado por llegar a un club tan grande, no puedo esperar para empezar y ver a los fans en el estadio,” he added. He looks forward to experiencing the atmosphere at the Mestalla stadium.

He also revealed that Carlos Corberán has given him confidence and shares his happiness about the move. Corberán, the Valencia head coach, reportedly welcomed the addition.

Career path and current performance

Born in Zaandam, Van Oevelen completed his development in the academies of AFC Amsterdam and FC Volendam, making his Eredivisie debut for Volendam in the 2023‑24 season, where he featured in a single match. His single Eredivisie appearance came during the 2023‑24 campaign.

In the current campaign he has become a regular, having played 32 league matches and conceded 51 goals. The 51 goals conceded reflect the defensive challenges faced by the team.
