Van der Gijp sees no problem with KNVB’s two‑year Slot deal

René van der Gijp and former striker Wim Kieft said they do not understand why the KNVB’s search for a new Netherlands (Oranje) head coach is taking so long, insisting that Arne Slot should be appointed on the conditions he wants.

Both analysts argue that Slot’s appointment should proceed without additional stipulations, matching the terms the coach himself has set.

Valentijn Driessen explained in the Kick‑Off supplement of the what he sees as the stumbling block between Slot and the KNVB.

“What I heard is the problem that Slot only wants to sign for two years, and they want someone for four years. I don’t see the problem. Just do two years. That’s fine,” Van der Gijp said.

Wim Kieft added that the KNVB should not overcomplicate the process, stressing that the key issue for Oranje lies with the players.

“We must not overestimate everything. You want to put a big name there, I understand that for the image. But yeah,” the former Oranje international remarked.
