Van De Perre eyes Bundesliga as Union chases prize after Lierse, Genk

Midfielder Kamiel Van De Perre, who has already featured for Lierse and Genk, says his next two years at Union SG must be about making clear steps and fighting for honours, before he can realistically aim for a move to the German Bundesliga.

"What I want now is to make clear steps in certain aspects of football at Union SG. I want to take big steps over the next one or two years and play for the prizes," Van De Perre told MidMid after being asked the question by Dennis Xhaët.

He added, "If I could choose, I would love to go to the Bundesliga. It suits my style as a player. Of course the top of the Premier League or Barcelona is a dream, but few can achieve that." The midfielder stressed that his immediate focus remains on Union.

Van De Perre explained that after several good conversations with the club’s hierarchy he became charmed by their plan. He admitted he might not feature heavily at the start, but believes Union SG wants to progress with him as part of their project.

International prospects and transfer outlook

Currently not called up to the senior Belgian side, Van De Perre is a member of the Belgium U21 squad and says, "The ambition is there, but I must work hard enough that the selectors cannot overlook me." He rejected the notion of demanding a call‑up, insisting performance must speak for itself.

Evert Winkelmans observed, "Kamiel is certainly on a long list for the coming years. It would be a pity if he had to prove himself abroad first, but other JPL players have done that. You are either ready or not. Raskin is at Rangers, Vanaken is the pivot at Club Brugge, so a top transfer is not a prerequisite for a Belgium call‑up."

Union’s long‑term plan, combined with Van De Perre’s personal ambition, suggests the midfielder will continue to develop domestically while keeping his eyes on a future Bundesliga opportunity.
