Valencia start new era under former Mexico coach Aguirre

Valencia has officially appointed Javier Aguirre as the new coach after the club, following a 1‑0 loss to Sevilla, said goodbye to Carlos Corberán and CEO Ron Gourlay. The 67‑year‑old former Mexico coach takes over the reins along the lines of Mestalla.

First results without a permanent coach

After Corberán's departure, Valencia played two more matches without a permanent successor. Against Alavés the team secured a 0‑1 victory, which had a positive effect.

Just before the international break, Valencia lost 2‑3 to Real Sociedad. This defeat came after the earlier win.

When Valencia meets Racing Santander in three weeks, a new face will be in front of the squad. The club officially presented Aguirre on Wednesday.

Anthony Gordon set for reunion with former Mexico boss Javier Aguirre

Javier was still active at the World Cup last summer as Mexico's national team coach, where he reached the round of 16. After the elimination by England, his third spell with the Mexican side ended. He has, among other things, won two Gold Cups.

La Liga and Spain are familiar territory for Aguirre; he has been under contract with Atlético Madrid, Espanyol, Osasuna, Real Zaragoza, Leganés and Mallorca. He signed until the end of this season, with an option for an additional year.

In the orange city, Aguirre will face the Dutch players Arnaut Danjuma, Justin de Haas and Kayne van Oevelen. Javier believes that their experience will strengthen the attack.
