Valencia signs veteran Aguirre, Eriksen stays in Denmark

International football news reports that the historic club Valencia has hired the 67‑year‑old veteran Javier Aguirre as the new coach, while the Danish international Christian Eriksen has mutually terminated his contract with VfL Wolfsburg to stay close to his family in Denmark.

New leadership and contract

As the club of the Swiss Filip Ugrinic announced, Valencia has hired the 67‑year‑old veteran Javier Aguirre as coach. The contract runs until the end of the season and includes an option for an additional year. The move brings the former Mexican national team coach to the Spanish LaLiga.

Aguirre, who previously led the Mexican national team, takes on the role at a historic club that was a two‑time Champions League finalist in the early 2000s.

The previous coach Carlos Corberan was dismissed on September 13, so Valencia now wants to look forward with new management.

After seven matchdays, Valencia sits second‑to‑last with only four points at the bottom of the table, a clear sign of the urgency for a sporting turnaround.

In parallel, the 34‑year‑old Dane Christian Eriksen has mutually terminated his contract with the second‑division side VfL Wolfsburg to return to Denmark.

Eriksen collapsed in early June during an international friendly against Ukraine, but quickly regained consciousness, bringing back memories of his cardiac arrest at the Euro 2021.

«At the moment it is important for me to be close to my family in Denmark», said the 151‑cap international, without deciding whether this means the end of his career.
