Valencia’s missed purchase turns into loan for Van Oevelen

While Valencia had hoped to secure a permanent transfer for goalkeeper Kayne van Oevelen this summer, the club missed out as Ipswich Town, the newly promoted Premier League side, exercised greater financial muscle and opted to loan the Dutch keeper instead.

Valencia confirmed the arrival of Kayne van Oevelen on Monday. The Dutch goalkeeper joins the Spanish side on a season‑long loan from England’s Ipswich Town.

The agreement contains no option to purchase, meaning Van Oevelen will return to Ipswich after the campaign. Valencia therefore secured only a temporary solution to its goalkeeping needs.

Van Oevelen’s contract with the English club runs until the summer of 2031. The long‑term deal ensures Ipswich retains his registration beyond the loan spell.

Financial context and contract terms

Ipswich Town paid approximately €4 million to FC Volendam for the goalkeeper this summer. The fee set a new record for the Dutch club.

Valencia had initially sought to buy Van Oevelen from FC Volendam earlier in the summer. The club missed out because Ipswich possessed greater financial firepower.

Valencia’s recent fixtures

Valencia opened their league campaign on Saturday with a goalless draw against Celta de Vigo. Their next fixture is scheduled for Tuesday evening against Real Betis.
