Valencia reshapes squad in break under Aguirre before Racing clash

On his second day of training, Javier Aguirre has already reshaped Valencia’s routine, using the international break to assess a squad that has amassed only four points from seven league games. His first match in charge will come on 11 October against Racing at the Sardinero.

Mouctar Diakhaby completed the first part of the session, while César Tárrega, Sadiq, Foulquier, Copete, Canós and Diego López continued with individual work. Aguirre’s initial words highlighted optimism, declaring the squad “has quality to stop suffering”.

The club also dismissed medical chief Pedro López Mateu after a spate of injuries and a perceived disconnect with the dressing‑room, a decisive move by sporting director Braulio Vázquez. This was his first strong action in the role, signalling a shift in the club’s medical approach.
