Unprecedented: Lyon fails to score against Chelsea in the Champions League

At the Groupama Stadium in Lyon, the second‑round Champions League match between Lyon and Chelsea ended goalless, a rarity that surprised the spectators. Salma Paralluelo of Lyon contested the ball with Ellie Carpenter of Chelsea, while the press Yaca García‑Planas described the moment as "something unprecedented".

Lyon, without its usual attacking power

The team coached by Jonatan Giráldez saw its tally remain at zero, the first time this season that it neither scored nor won. After four games, the French side had accumulated thirty goals, but on this occasion it was kept blank.

Melchie Dumornay, the Haitian forward for Lyon, had scored eight goals in five games, but she did not find the net in this duel. The lack of chances was reflected in the absence of any goal.

After the match, player Salma Paralluelo expressed her regret: "This regret we feel tonight for not being able to put a ball into the back of the net.. We must keep working to be stronger".

Coach Jonatan Giráldez commented: "The team tried to win the match. We had chances, but it was not possible. The intensity of the game did not allow us to reach the opponent's area with enough freshness, unlike our previous games".

Meanwhile, Real Madrid travel to Manchester City in search of their first European victory, according to EFE.
