Unlucky Musiala misses international, Havertz returns to Arsenal

Jamal Musiala misses the international match against the Netherlands after he was injured in the warm‑up on Thursday, while Arsenal striker Kai Havertz suffered a muscle injury in the first half on the same day and is now returning to London. Both young attackers are leaving the German national team and are returning to their clubs, Bayern Munich and Arsenal.

Musiala’s season start postponed

It is not yet Jamal Musiala’s season, the 23‑year‑old attacking midfielder who suffers from a form of epilepsy and collapsed on the field during two practice matches.

In September he gradually received more minutes for Bayern Munich in Bavaria, after which he received a (whether or not obvious) call‑up for the national team and was set to start in the Johan Cruijff Arena on Thursday in Jürgen Klopp’s debut as national team coach.

During the warm‑up he, however, had to withdraw and on Friday Bayern reported that he has a torn muscle in his right thigh, which means he is definitively withdrawing from the international match and returning to Bayern Munich.

For Kai Havertz the international period is already over; the Arsenal striker started the kickoff on Thursday, but was quickly injured in the first half.

Liverpool problems: Klopp's comments on Wirtz and DFB selection chance

The German federation reports that the injury is serious enough to exclude him from the national team and that he is returning to Arsenal with a muscle strain.

Jonathan Burkardt from Eintracht Frankfurt and Florian Wirtz from Liverpool therefore join the Mannschaft earlier.

Both were originally in Jürgen Klopp’s second squad, but are now considered needed earlier.

With Musiala and Havertz absent, the German international now has to rely on the young Burkardt and the Liverpool player Wirtz, which significantly changes the squad for the upcoming matches.
