United's pursuit of Sander Berge could reshape Carrick’s midfield

Manchester United have set their sights on Fulham midfielder Sander Berge, the 28‑year‑old Norwegian whose contract runs until 2029, according to a report by Fichajes. The Red Devils see the player, who featured in 35 Premier League games for the London club last season, as a potential addition to Michael Carrick’s midfield team.

Fichajes reported that Manchester United have set their sights on Fulham midfielder Sander Berge. The Red Devils have identified the Norwegian midfielder as a target for this transfer window.

Berge’s impressive form in English football was evident last season, when he featured in 35 Premier League matches for the London club. Although he did not score or create a goal, he is regarded as one of the most talented central midfielders in the league.

The 28‑year‑old’s contract at Craven Cottage runs until the summer of 2029, meaning United would need to present a convincing offer to secure his services before then.

Known for his love of a tackle, Berge times his challenges well and often wins possession inside his own half. He is also a good passer and uses his 1.95 m frame to dominate aerially, operating primarily as a defensive midfielder but capable of a box‑to‑box role when required.

His familiarity with the Premier League should allow a quick adjustment to life at the Mancunian club. Carrick’s midfield department would gain more bite and steel, and Berge could compete for a regular first‑team spot at Old Trafford.

At 28, Berge is entering his peak years, making him a sensible off‑season target for the Red Devils. He is expected to help Manchester United fight across all fronts over the next couple of years.

Carrick should focus on finalising Berge’s move before the end of the month. A photo from July 5 2026 shows the Norway international celebrating a 2‑1 World Cup 2026 Round‑of‑16 win over Brazil in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
