United chase Tchouameni as Real Madrid weigh summer sale
Real Madrid are prepared to sell midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni to Manchester United this summer for the right price, despite recent talks of a contract extension that would have secured his long‑term future at the club in the major Spanish league.
Not long ago, Tchouameni was reported to be close to signing that extension, a deal that would have sealed his long‑term stay. Widespread rumours suggested he had already agreed a deal with Real Madrid, especially as Manchester United showed interest. Yet Real Madrid have not yet formalised any transfer, while United continue to push for the Frenchman.
Jose Mourinho was keen on retaining Tchouameni as part of his setup for the next season. Real Madrid, however, are weighing a sale, aware that the French international commands a strong market in the Premier League. The club sees the potential fee as a catalyst for other signings.
Tchouameni’s injury derailed his World Cup campaign, although he still featured in the semi‑finals. The setback adds urgency to the transfer discussions.
Real Madrid believe that off‑loading Tchouameni could boost their coffers, freeing resources for new acquisitions. Florentino Pérez has already expressed interest in Michael Olise as a potential ‘Galactico’ signing this summer.
If the midfielder departs, a move for Rodri could become viable as a direct replacement. Mourinho has reportedly asked Pérez to sign Rodri, viewing him as the ideal bridge between defence and attack.
Rodri would represent an upgrade, being more dynamic than the usually slower‑linking Tchouameni. However, Rodri is in the final stage of his career, whereas the 26‑year‑old Tchouameni remains a long‑term asset.
Real Madrid say they will only entertain a sale for the right price. A successful deal would provide United with a Premier League‑ready French midfielder and give Madrid the financial flexibility to pursue targets such as Olise or Rodri.
