Union Berlin scores with witty tweet after Yamal's goal against Kane
With only five weeks left until the Ballon d’Or ceremony, the debate is already in full swing, after Lamine Yamal (19) of Barcelona openly mocked Harry Kane (33) in a recent interview. Both Yamal and Kylian Mbappé (27) claim that they deserve the award, while the German club Union Berlin seized the opportunity with its own tweet.
Yamal’s provocation and Kane’s response
Yamal said: “This year I deserve the award, purely based on everything I have won. The Ballon d’Or should go to the best player, not to someone who scores 80 goals.” He added that he does not consider Kane worthy.
Kane replied after his two goals against Union Berlin: “Anyone can say what they want, I let my performances on the field speak for themselves.”
Kane, who last season scored a total of 73 goals for Bayern and England, emphasized his pride in the season achieved, including titles and World Cup matches. His status as a candidate‑winner is therefore seen as justified.

Union Berlin’s humorous tweet
After the 7‑0 defeat of Bayern by Union Berlin, in which Michael Olise scored a hat‑trick, the media team of the Berlin club posted a tweet: “Could that 19‑year‑old rascal (Lamine Yamal, ed.) from Barcelona just keep his mouth shut? Kane and Olise are really in top form today and prove that they are Ballon d’Or‑worthy.” The tweet was shared with a photo of the match, labelled by IMAGN IMAGES via Reuters.
Jordi De Koninck of Sport noted: “No player was better than me. People talked about performances. To score so much in major competitions, where all the big players are present.” Mbappé confirmed his own conviction with a similar statement.
The discussion around the Ballon d’Or, which will be announced on Monday 26 October, therefore remains especially charged. While Yamal remains full of confidence, Kane continues to focus on his game, and Union Berlin enjoys the unexpected publicity.
