Under one condition: New Portugal boss Jorge Jesus on Ronaldo
Portugal’s new national team coach Jorge Jesus announced today at 15:48 that Cristiano Ronaldo’s international future remains open, but the 41‑year‑old striker will only be summoned if he can still add value, under one clear condition for the side in upcoming fixtures.
The inter‑national career of Cristiano Ronaldo is not necessarily finished, according to the coach’s remarks.
"I will talk to all players, also with Cris," Jesus said, referring to the 41‑year‑old star.
Jesus noted that Ronaldo, a 233‑time international, confirmed after Portugal’s elimination by Spain that it was his last World Cup.
He added that Ronaldo is a banner for Portugal and the national team and that it is very nice to work with him. The two also worked together last season at Al Nassr.
Jesus set a condition: Ronaldo will only be eligible for a call‑up if he can still be of value to the national side. "I will call him if he plays and is fit, under the condition that his presence benefits the national team," he explained.
After the defeat to Spain at the World Cup, a farewell seemed close, but with Jesus in charge the door remains open for a new chapter. Jesus concluded: "He decides the future of his career."
