Undefeated champion Reedijk starts new challenge at Hibernian
Marink Reedijk has achieved an unbeaten title in Belgium, but now faces a very different challenge: the difficult start of Hibernian in the Scottish Premiership. While he never suffered a defeat in Belgium, the Scottish club after seven games has only seven points and sits tenth of the twelve.
New step in Scotland
The 34‑year‑old Dutchman has been appointed as manager of Hibernian through the official channels. In a second source his age is however listed as 35 years, creating a discrepancy. Reedijk, who was previously out of work, now takes charge of the Premiership‑club.
Reedijk led SK Beveren to promotion to the Jupiler Pro League last season. With the Belgian club he became unbeaten champion, a feat that had never before been achieved at the second level of Belgium.
Progress at Beveren and Hibernian's current form
At the end of the previous season Reedijk decided to part ways with Beveren. Tim Bakens, 43 years old, took over at the Belgian club. Although Reedijk was previously linked with Royal Antwerp, Marc Overmars chose Marvin Compper that summer.
Hibernian have a disappointing start: after seven games they sit in tenth place with seven points, with four games already lost. Last season the club finished fifth and qualified for the qualifying rounds of the Conference League, but were then eliminated by KAA Gent.
Reedijk has a broad background: he worked in the youth setups of the KNVB, Ajax, Anderlecht and West Bromwich Albion, and was assistant‑manager at KSV Roeselare and Vitesse. In addition he led the Anderlecht youth team and was in charge of SK Beveren.
