Uli Hoeneß accuses Liverpool, saying Wirtz would play better at Bayern
Uli Hoeneß, the honorary president of Bayern Munich, has publicly criticised Liverpool FC for not properly integrating Florian Wirtz, and emphasised that the record champion will not make any new transfer attempt for the German exceptional talent. The 74‑year‑old patron also stated that the idea of bringing the exceptional talent to Bayern a year and a half ago has already been discarded.
Previous Transfer Plans and Current Stance
Hoeneß had already about a year and a half ago publicly signalled that he would have liked to bring Wirtz to the German record champion. The close friend of Wirtz’s father Hans had even indirectly announced a transfer back then, before the player moved in the summer of 2025 for roughly €125 million from Bayer Leverkusen to the Reds.
In an interview with Die Welt on Sunday, Hoeneß said: “Florian would play much better with us than he does at Liverpool.” He added that Wirtz would watch many of the team’s games because he is “not properly integrated” at Liverpool.
Hoeneß criticised that Wirtz in Liverpool has never been able to match the dazzling performances from Leverkusen. In Leverkusen he received “every ball”, whereas in Merseyside he is now “one among many” and constantly exposed to sharp criticism.
Wirtz’s contract at Liverpool runs until 2030, and Hoeneß stressed that Bayern will not make a second attempt at a transfer. The transfers have already been discussed several times, and he said: “He has a long‑term contract at Liverpool. They will try there to integrate him better,” explained the 74‑year‑old patron.
